Coir pith (cocopith): what it is and bulk supply
Coir pith, often written cocopith, is the trade name used in India and in export markets for the spongy pith of the coconut husk. It is the same material sold to gardeners as cocopeat or coco peat. Coirpath supplies washed and buffered coir pith in blocks and bulk.
What is coir pith?
When coconut husks are defibered, about two-thirds of the husk is pith. This is coir pith, or cocopith.
Fresh coir pith is high in salts and tannins. Washing, drying and ageing turn it into a stable growing medium.
Exporters usually say coir pith or cocopith on documents; retailers usually say cocopeat or coco coir.
